WHAT IS WHEATED WHISKEY?

One of the more popular whiskey styles as of late is wheated bourbon. What differentiates a wheated bourbon from its brethren is that, after corn, wheat is the secondary flavoring grain instead of rye or barley.
Although wheat is the primary grain used in most baked goods, it is not as common in whiskey. Some American distillers have developed wheat based bourbon to provide a light, sweet and more approachable whiskey spirit.
Some bourbon whiskeys are “wheated”, meaning they use a certain percentage of wheat in their mashbills instead of the more common rye.
A few popular wheated whiskey brands include: Cabin Still, Maker’s Mark, Old Fitzgerald, Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve, Rebel Yell, and W. L. Weller. Maker’s Mark is the most known wheated bourbon whiskeys on the market.
